Russia Calls on Seoul, Pyongyang to Take Practical Steps to Ease Tensions
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — South Korea is willing to negotiate a lifting of sanctions imposed on North Korea amid a thaw following a tense military standoff, spokesman of the South Korean Unification Ministry Jeong Joon-hee said on Wednesday.

In May 2010, Seoul imposed restrictions on Pyongyang, accusing it of sinking a South Korean navy ship carrying 104 people, 46 of whom died. The North denied the accusation.

"On the issue of the May 24 [sanctions], if government-level talks are held and various sub-meetings are held within that framework, I believe it will be the North, which has an interest in the issue, that will bring it up," Jeong said at a press briefing, as quoted by the Yonhap news agency.

South Korea Stops Propaganda Broadcasting Against DPRK in Demilitarized Zone
The issue can be resolved through dialogue, he added.

On Tuesday, the two countries reached a deal, stipulating measures to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula following last week’s back and forth shelling instigated as a result of the resumption of anti-Pyongyang broadcasting propaganda along the demilitarized zone by Seoul. The sides agreed to hold further talks in the near future.
