In September 2014, the volcanic eruption of Mount Ontake on the Honshu island, southwest of Tokyo, killed 57 people, with six people still remaining missing.
According to the broadcaster, search parties consist of some 220 people, including police officers and firefighters.
By now, Mount Ontake's volcanic activity has reduced, but has not stopped yet, which forced the rescue team to build four temporary shelters capable of withstanding hits of small volcanic rocks.
Japan is home to almost seven percent of the world’s volcanoes that have erupted over the past 10,000 years, according to a recent study by Kobe University.
