MOSCOW (Sputnik) – An employee of the US embassy in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad was fatally shot on Sunday, local police said.
The Pakistani national identified as Iqbal Baig was shot dead at his home, police said as cited by the Press Trust of India.
The outlet added that Baig, member of an Ismaili minority branch of Shia Islam, has been employed by the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
The motive of the murder has not yet been established in an ongoing investigation and search for the shooters, the media added.
The incident comes two months after six gunmen opened fire at a bus with 60 Shiite Ismaili Muslims on board in the biggest Pakistani city of Karachi, killing 45. A local division of the Islamic State jihadist group and Pakistan’s militant Tehreek-i-Taliban organization both claimed responsibility for the attack.
