MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Owner of a ferry that capsized in the Philippines, killing 59 people, has been charged with multiple counts of homicide, CNN reported Sunday, citing national police inspector Mark Nalda.
The 33-tonne motorized boat Kim Nivana was carrying approximately 200 passengers and crew.

The accident took place several minutes after the ferry left Ormoc City, in the Philippines’ Leyte province. It was heading to neighbouring Camotes Island when it capsized several hundred meters off the port on Thursday.
The coast guards as well as several other reports have put the number of survivors at 142.
Overloading with cargo and passengers might have been the reason for the disaster, according to the Ormoc city councillor.
