"Chinese media workers are willing to join hands with their counterparts from Russia and other countries to devote themselves to objective, impartial and just news reporting, aiming to contribute to a more diverse and balanced pattern for international communication."
Ahead of the forum, a commentary published on Tuesday in the China Daily newspaper also highlighted the need to adapt to the modern challenges of information-rich societies and economic globalization.
"China and Russia are key emerging markets and important forces to protect peace, security and stability in the world. The global community is giving ever more attention to the development of China and Russia."
"Such circumstances require the close cooperation of the media of the two countries to strengthen media communication with the outside world, to bring the world its just voice and positive energy, to give an alternative and just point of view to the world community."
In addition to the St Petersburg media forum, the bilateral Committee on Media Communication has held regular meetings since its establishment in 2008 to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries, and a media exchange program is planned for next year, also intended to boost cultural exchanges.
