An engine fire alert went off on the Malaysia Airlines flight MH148 en route to Kuala Lumpur forcing the Airbus A330 with 300 passengers on board to return to Melbourne airport minutes after takeoff.

The plane underwent a preliminary inspection after safely landing in the Australian city. The probe revealed no signs of external fire, the company said in a statement.

Last year, the airline company suffered two tragedies: flight MH370 disappeared in March and has not been located since then, while four months later flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine, killing all passengers on board.
