MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Pakistan has no plans to sell nuclear arms to Saudi Arabia or anyone else, a Pakistani diplomatic source told Sputnik on Monday, commenting on numerous media reports that claimed that an Islamabad deal with Riyadh was as good as done.
"There is no question of transferring any weapon or scientific technology to any country. Our nuclear assets are for deterrence," the source said, adding that the program was created in response to India developing its nuclear weapons.
"In Pakistan there is a strong and robust nuclear command and control system in place. There is no question of any proliferation," the source stated.
Riyadh is allegedly on its way to joining the nuclear club amid growing anxiety over Iran's nuclear program. In April, the Saudis' regional rival Tehran agreed on a framework deal with six international mediators to dismantle parts of its nuclear research program in exchange for an easing of economic sanctions.
Saudi Arabia, which is not known to have a nuclear capability, is apparently concerned that Iran would still be able to build a nuclear weapon.
