Australia Announces Citizenship Crackdown Amid Terrorist Threat
MOSCOW (Sputnik) The US Embassy in Australia issued a security alert to its citizens on Friday, warning them of the potential risk of a terrorist attack occurring in the country.

“The Mission of the United States of America in Australia reminds US citizens that the Australian National Terrorism Public Alert level, set by the Government of Australia, remains HIGH. Australian National Security has stated that a terrorist attack is likely to occur in Australia,” the message read.

The embassy is urging US citizens residing and traveling in Australia to be cautious and to report of any suspicious persons or items.

The message followed the announced arrest of a teenager in Melbourne last week by Australian security forces, who is suspected of planning to detonate three devices that were found in his house during a police raid.

Last month, Australian police arrested five men in Melbourne, two of whom allegedly planned to conduct a terrorist attack during a national holiday. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said that the detainees were suspected of having links to the Islamic State terrorist group.
