North Korea wants to increase the use of English at universities, Yonhap News said.
A report, published by the country’s Education Newspaper on April 2, said:
“Basic words in the textbook should be written in English in parallel with Korean, so students can pay more attention to learning English words when studying their major.”
Pyongyang believes that such teaching methods will make North Korean students read sources written in English.
Last year, the North Korean Committee of Education increased the level of entrance requirements at universities, including the ability to speak foreign languages.
