Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia are launching a trial to allow air traffic controllers to better track aircraft flying over oceans as the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 continues.

The trial system enables planes to be tracked every 15 minutes, rather than every 30-40 minutes now.

Contact with flight MH370, carrying 239 people, mainly Chinese passengers, was lost en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014. Despite an extensive search no trace has ever been found.

Investigators believe the plane was flown thousands of miles off course before eventually crashing into the ocean off the Australian coast.
