Now the threat of radioactive contamination of fish in South Korea by the Fukushima disaster in 2011 has diminished, fishing levels in the country increased by 6.1 per cent, reported SBS, South Korean television network, Friday.
According to cited statistics, fish harvests increased to 3.32 million tons, this is 190 thousand tons more than the previous year.
Offshore fish production rose by 3.4%, whereas inshore production rose by 4.1%, reported SBS. Deep sea fishing jumped by 21.1%, and by 17.2%.
In 2011, as the result of a strong earthquake and tsunami, the nuclear power plant at Fukushima suffered major damage, contaminating the seas around it.
