MOSCOW, December 7 (Sputnik) – The search of survivors from the sunken South Korean trawler Oryong 501 has been complicated by heavy storm.

“There is a heavy storm in the search area, four South Korean fishing vessels and two US Coast Guard vessels remain on the site. Inclement weather conditions complicate the rescue operation. Currently the death toll reaches 27 people, 26 remain missing,” representative of the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky’s Maritime Rescue Sub-Branch told RIA Novosti Sunday.

On Monday, South Korean fishing trawler Oryong 501 sank in the Bering Sea in the Russian Far East. There were 60 people on board, with the crew consisting mainly of South Korean, Indonesian and Philippine citizens. Seven people, including Russian national, have been rescued.

The trawler, operated by the South Korean firm Sajo Industries, was built 40 years ago and is said to have made no distress signal before sinking.
