MOSCOW, November 27 (Sputnik) – Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced on Thursday a plan to review Internet security strategies to prevent online attacks on the country’s networks.

“The review, to report within six months, will explore how industry and the government can work together to make our online systems more resilient against attacks,” Abbott said in a press release.

Under the reviewed strategy, Australia will examine its data protection efforts and establish cooperation mechanisms between government and industry to prevent Internet crime.

“This review will look for practical ways to improve our national security and work with business to make online commerce more secure,” Abbott added.

The Cyber Security Review plan will be coordinated by the Department of the Prime Minister and assisted by the panel of Australian and US experts in Internet security policy and business, according to the press release.

Last year over 900 cyberattacks against governmental agencies were documented by the Australian Signal Directorate. It is estimated that over one billion dollars of revenue has been lost to illegal online activities since 2013, according to the Department of Prime Minister of Australia.
