Researchers at Lund University in Sweden reconstructed a house in ancient Pompeii with the help of 3D-modeling, thus revealing new information about the mysterious city.

The project is designed to show how the life of the ancient Roman city looked like before the Vesuvius eruption.

To learn more about the interiors of a house in Pompeii, you can watch the University's official video on YouTube. Inside the house, you can see recreated indoor pool, roof windows and statues.

The 3D-model is based on the scans of the city's ruins made during a fieldwork in 2011-2012.

"By combining new technology with more traditional methods, we can describe Pompeii in greater detail and more accurately than was previously possible," the statement of Nicoló Dell´Unto, digital archaeologist at Lund University, said.

Although the model is quite precise, scientists believe that the house they managed to reconstruct belonged to wealthy citizens and therefore can't represent the living conditions of the majority of Pompeii's population.

Pompeii was one of the most prosperous cities of the Roman empire. In the year 79 A.D., the eruption of Vesuvius volcano buried the ancient Roman city under a hick carpet of volcanic ash, claiming lives of thousands of people.
