The project that first was perceived as a joke is expected to be launched in September 2016.

Vanneste, who inherited one of the oldest Belgian brew-houses, De Halve Maan, came up with the idea four years ago.

The Mayor of Bruges was first skeptical about Vanneste's proposal, but when he concluded that the innovation will reduce the number of giant bear trucks on the streets of the city, he decided to give the project the green light, Guardian wrote.

The pipeline will run through the entire city — from the brew-house to the plant, where the drink is bottled. If all goes well, the volume of beer delivered to the country plant would be enough to fill 12,000 bottles every hour.

According to estimates, 6,819 liters of beer will flow through the 3.22-km long pipeline at a speed of about 19 km / h. Currently, De Halve Maan is conducting the final tests on the pipeline.
