Italian Writer Umberto Eco Dies Aged 84

Italian philosopher and writer Umberto Eco has died at the age of 84, local media report.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Umberto’s family confirmed the death of the famous novelist to Italian la Repubblica newspaper on Saturday.

Umberto Eco died at 22:30 (21:30 GMT) on Friday at his home, the newspaper said, providing no further details.

​Umberto Eco is best known for his 1980 novel The Name of the Rose. He has also written academic texts and essays and was the founder of the Department of Media Studies at the University of the Republic of San Marino, as well as President of the Graduate School for the Study of the Humanities at the University of Bologna.
