“A majority of Americans continue to believe smoking should be made illegal in all public places (58%), as they have since 2011,” Gallup said. “Forty-one percent are opposed to a total ban in public places.”
On July 30, 2015, Gallup released a poll looking at whether US citizens believed smoking should be outright banned or allowed in public places.
The results of the poll come from Gallup’s July 8-12, 2015 Consumption Habits Survey, which showed 19 percent of US citizens smoked cigarettes in the past week.
The poll concluded that most US citizens seem receptive to efforts to reduce secondhand smoke exposure and smoking-related litter while supporting the rights of US smokers to continue to do so.
The poll was based on a random sample of 1,009 adults, ranging from ages 18 and older and living in all 50 US states and Washington, DC, with a margin of error of +4 percent points at a 95 percent confidence level.
