Stray Cat Saves Abandoned Baby's Life, Becomes International Hit
MOSCOW, January 30 (Sputnik) — A hungry homeless cat in the city of Kharkov, eastern Ukraine has snuck into a local meat packing plant, eating and ruining over 6,000 Ukrainian Hryvnia (about $380 US) worth of meat products, Ukrainian media have reported.

The cat, who is reported to have spent several days in the plant after sneaking into its finished products area, seems to prefer the good life. Workers say that he sampled only the premium delicacies offered by the plant. When all was said and done, they noted that the losses resulting from the feline's magnificent feast amounted to nearly USD 400 in damages.

After the workers finally caught the cat, they handed him over to an area shelter. He has since been caged and is being fed rations of dry food. Shelter workers nicknamed him 'Balyk', a word which means 'fish' in Turkic languages, and is also a brand of cold smoked meat products sold in the former Soviet Union. The stray is presently being held for a 45-day quarantine, after which he will be put up for adoption. Dozens of local residents have already voiced their interest in adopting the debonair thief, and will be able to do so when his quarantine is up.

Cat Eats Seafood Worth More Than $1,000 at Vladivostok Airport
The Ukrainian cat shares his love of meat and seafood delicacies with a Russian cat who was caught earlier. Last month, a stray in Vladivostok broke into a seafood shop at the city's international airport, eating and sampling nearly $1,000 US worth of seafood. The Vladivostok stray has since been adopted by the city's "Admiral" hockey club, and become the team's official mascot.
