WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is still in the beginning phases of an inspection of bombings that took place at two New Mexico churches yesterday, FBI Albuquerque Office spokesman Frank Fisher told Sputnik on Monday.
“We are still in early stages, but making progress,” Fisher said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
On Sunday morning, two bombs exploded outside the Calvary Baptist Church and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Each building sustained minor damages and there were no deaths or injuries as a result of the bomb detonations, according to the Las Cruses Police Department.
Fisher said the FBI is attempting to speak with as many people as possible to gain information on the perpetrators of the bombing act.
The FBI has established a toll free number for the public to call with information and tips about the bombers.
Fisher noted that alongside the FBI, several other federal and state agencies are working jointly to inspect the area of the bomb explosions to uncover additional information.
This bombing comes after a series of bombing investigations in the United States since a gunman Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez killed five servicemen at the US Naval Research Center and the military recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tennessee last month.
On July 21, 2015, Tallahassee, Florida police began an investigation into a bomb threat against the Florida National Guard. That same day, Iowa police began investigating a bomb threat against a fertilizer plant.
