An immigration consultant says that attempts to halt the flow of US-bound Latino immigrants with drones and border guards is a waste of time, because 'it’s ridiculous to try and stop a human phenomenon'.

GUATEMALA CITY, November 17 (Sputnik) – Trying to halt the flow of US-bound Latino immigrants with drones and border guards is a “ridiculous” waste of time when better solutions are available, immigration consultant Miguel Ugalde told Sputnik Sunday.

“Migration flows of the Americas have existed these past 22,000 years, when man crossed over from Asia. Human movement is a natural thing, it’s ridiculous to try and stop a human phenomenon,” said Ugalde, an immigration consultant and former employee of the UN children’s agency, UNICEF.

“The short-term solution is to increase the number of temporary work visas, to meet demand for labor in the US. The mid-term is to create a migrant return policy, with jobs in Guatemala. The long-term is increasing the development of the country, with roads, education and other services in rural areas of Guatemala. A long-term investment in education will take 30 years.”

The United States spends $18 billion each year on drones, guard posts and other forms of border security as well as funding Mexico and Central American states to halt the flows of migrants, headed to the United States looking for jobs and to join relatives.
