One Third of Europeans and Americans Consider Crimea Part of Russia

According to a survey organized by Sputnik.Polls, about one third of American, Dutch, British, French, German and Italian people believe Crimea is part of Russia.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Sputnik Information Agency and Radio ordered the survey, which was conducted by the Populus research firm in the United States, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, and by the largest French company Ifop — in France, Italy and Germany.

Thirty-nine percent of Italians and 37 percent of Germans believe Crimea is part of Russia. In the UK and the Netherlands, the share is 33 and 32 percent, respectively. In the United States and France, 26 percent of respondents consider Crimea to be part of Russia. Most Americans (42 percent) responded "I Don't Know" in answer to this question.

The survey in the United States, the UK and the Netherlands was conducted by the major research firm Populus on March 4-9 and involved 3,092 respondents over 18 years old, including 1,004 in the Netherlands, 1,085 in the United Kingdom and 1,003 in the United States. The samples were chosen to represent the population by gender, age, geography and employment. In France, Italy and Germany, the survey was held on March 8-10 by IFop, the oldest public research company in France. The survey involved 3,001 respondents over 18 years old, including 1,005 in France, 1,002 in Germany and 994 in Italy. The samples used also represented the respective populations by gender, age, geography and employment. The maximum sampling error does not exceed 3.1 percent at a probability of 95 percent.
