The Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency’s photojournalist, Valery Melnikov, became a winner of the ninth international Vilnius Photo Circle festival’s Circle of Life contest, the agency’s press service said in a statement Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The winning "Black Days of Ukraine" photo series, shot by Melnikov during his visit to the eastern Luhansk region last summer, was exhibited at the festival on February 12-13 and has been published in the Photo Circle magazine, according to the statement.

Melnikov’s works were previously shortlisted and won numerous Russian and international photo contests, including Sony WAP 2015, DAYS Japan International Photo Journalism Award 2015, CHIPP2015, Professional Photographer of the Year 2014, China International Press Photo Contest 2013 and 2014, Kolga Tbilisi Photo 2015, Silver Camera-2013 and others.
