The following countries are expected to show a negative population change by 2030: Lithuania (down 24 percent), Latvia (down 18 percent) and Bulgaria (down 10 percent).

MOSCOW (Sputnik press service) — The Sputnik news agency is releasing data on population dynamics in European countries as part of its Sputnik.Facts project. According to Eurostat, population decline has been plaguing most Eastern European nations as well as the relatively poor "old European" countries such as Portugal and Greece. At the same time, countries like France, Switzerland, or UK appear immune to depopulation risks.

These statistics depend on migration as well as natural population growth or decline. It is clear from Eurostat figures for 2015 and its forecast for 2030 that migration occurs from less successful economies to more developed ones. The following countries are expected to show a negative population change by 2030: Lithuania (down 24 percent), Latvia (down 18 percent) and Bulgaria (down 10 percent). In Greece and Portugal, the population will decline eight percent and six percent, respectively, which is already beginning to have a negative impact on the economies of these countries.

The biggest increases in 2030 are expected in Luxembourg (39 percent), Norway (23 percent) and Switzerland (16 percent). In the UK, the population is expected to increase nine percent and in France, six percent.
