Somalia Plane’s Mid-Air Blast Probe Finds Traces of Explosives

A preliminary investigation into an in-flight explosion on board a passenger aircraft above East Africa indicated explosive residue, media reported, citing a source close to the investigation.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, an explosion and fire created a hole in a commercial plane en route to Djibouti City shortly after it took off. The airliner made an emergency landing at the Somali capital of Mogadishu following the blast.

Preliminary tests of the damaged plane returned positive for explosive residue, the source told CNN on Tuesday.

The blast injured two people, according to the Somali Ministry of Air Transport and Aviation.
