"The members of the Security Council urged the Government of Mali, the Plateforme and Coordination armed groups to prioritize the implementation of key provisions of the Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation in Mali in order to bring concrete peace dividends to the populations of Mali," the Tuesday statement read.
According to the statement, the Security Council called for deployment of joint security patrols and disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of armed combatants.
"The members of the Security Council expressed their concern about the security situation, including the expansion of terrorist and criminal activities into central and southern Mali," the statement said.
Mali has experienced consistent violent instability following a 2012 military coup, after which separatist tribes seized control over large areas in the northern part of the country. Recently Islamist groups have emerged in the country.
In May 2015, the country’s government and armed groups signed a peace accord in the Malian capital Bamako.
