Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari said he was ready to negotiate with the Boko Haram militants to ensure the release of over 200 schoolgirls kidnapped more than a year ago, media reported Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In April 2014, the Boko Haram group attacked a school in Nigeria's northeastern Chibok village kidnapping 276 schoolgirls. Some of the girls managed to escape but about 200 still remain missing.

"If a credible leader of Boko Haram can be established and they tell us where those girls are, we are prepared to negotiate with them, without any precondition," Buhari was quoted by the BBC as saying.
