MOSCOW (Sputnik) — South African President Jacob Zuma has been discharged from hospital after undergoing a scheduled procedure to remove gallstones, the presidency’s website announced in a statement on Sunday.
The president’s health problems were discovered two months ago during a routine medical check-up, but the operation was delayed due to Zuma’s busy schedule. The opportunity to undergo a treatment has emerged since the South African parliament and government are currently on a seasonal recess.
"Doctors are pleased with the outcome of the operation. The President will spend the next few days resting and recuperating at home… The Presidency wishes the President well and a speedy recovery, " the statement read.
The statement added that during the rehabilitation period Zuma would be working from home.
Zuma was previously hospitalized in June 2014, two weeks after winning a reelection, for what his spokesperson described a bout of exhaustion. He was released two days later.
