Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Dairi told the emergency session of the UN Security Council Wednesday that the measure would help beef up his country’s armed forces to better deal with "rampant terrorism".
He warned that failure to supply arms to Libya would "play into the hands of extremists"
Egypt said it supported Libya's request.
