Commenting on sexual assault charges against the Girls writer which were made public late last week, actress Lena Dunham said in her Twitter account that "…sadly this accusation is one of the 3% of assault cases that are misreported every year …" and that "we stand by Murray and this is all we'll be saying about this issue."
After being widely criticized for the remarks, Dunham was quick to extend her apologies on Twitter and said that "I now understand that it was absolutely the wrong time to come forward with such a statement and I am so sorry."
Miller is accused of raping actress Aurora Perrineau in 2012 when she was 17. He "categorically" denies the allegations, according to The Guardian.
The newspaper quoted Miller lawyer Matthew Walerstein as saying that "Mr. Miller looks forward to sharing all evidence and information with any and all authorities seeking the truth in this matter."

Twitter users have, for their part, reacted vehemently to Dunham's apologies, with some of them specifically pointing to the actress's social status.
People try to come up with explanations for Lena Dunham but honestly it's just that she's a rich white liberal who grew up in luxury and went immediately into being a cultural icon whose every utterance was deemed newsworthy and important.
