TOKYO (Sputnik) — South Korean Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn called on country's military to intensify observation of North Korea amid potential provocations after the presidential impeachment, media reported on Saturday.
"After the National Assembly voted in favor of the impeachment plan yesterday, the government is carrying out all measures necessary to prevent any government vacuum and ease the people's anxiety," Hwang was quoted as saying during an emergency meeting of Cabinet ministers by Yonhap News Agency.

The South Korean parliament voted on the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye on Friday, following the scandal around Park, who allowed her close friend Choi Soon-sil edit her speeches. Choi was also suspected of extorting money for her non-commercial funds from South Korean biggest corporations.
Hwang was chosen as an interim president until the country's constitutional court approves or rejects the motion to remove Park from office.
