US president-elect Donald Trump, known for being extremely active on social media, said he will rarely use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram after his inauguration, as he will be "very restrained."

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In an interview with the CBS News broadcaster on Saturday, Trump said that he would be restrained while using social media after inauguration, though, these means of communication were one of the keys to his victory.

"I’m going to be very restrained, if I use it at all, I’m going to be very restrained," he claimed. "I find it tremendous. It’s a modern form of communication. There should be nothing we should be ashamed of… I really believe that-- the fact that I have such power in terms of numbers with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, et cetera, I think it helped me win all of these races where they’re spending much more money than I spent. And I won. I think that social media has more power than the money they spent, and I think maybe to a certain extent, I proved that."

He added that the social networks could help regain the strategic positions and "fight back" when the media report information in an inaccurate or biased way.

On Tuesday, Trump won the 2016 election with at least 290 electoral votes, while his rival Hillary Clinton received 232 votes despite winning the popular vote by a margin of some 200,000. The presidential inauguration will be held on January 20, 2017.

Following the vote and the announcement of the results, multiple protests emerged in the United States against Trump, to which he said that the "professional protesters" were "incited by the media," which was unfair.
