US President Barack Obama has selected 32 government officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry and Ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro, for a delegation to the funeral of former Israeli prime minister and president Shimon Peres, the White House announced on Thursday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Obama will lead the delegation, which is scheduled to depart Thursday for Tel Aviv and return to the United States on Friday, following the funeral.

"President Barack Obama today announced the designation of a Presidential Delegation to the State of Israel to attend the State Funeral of Former President and Prime Minister Shimon Peres," the announcement stated.
Peres died on Wednesday at age 93 after suffering a stroke several weeks ago.
He served two terms each as Israel’s prime minister and interim prime minister. Peres also was the country’s ninth president, serving from 2007 to 2014.
