The security services of Azerbaijan detained a group of people on suspicion of links to the movement of Turkish self-exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen accused of orchestrating last month’s failed coup attempt in Turkey, the services and the prosecution said in a statement Friday.

BAKU (Sputnik) – Approximately 26,000 people have been arrested since the July 15 attempted overthrow of the Turkish government that led to over 260 deaths. Ankara has requested the United States to extradite Gulen, who denies the accusations of masterminding the plot, to face charges in Turkey.

"Literature of the Fethullah Gulen, CDs and documents proving links to the movement were found in one of the suspects’ flats," the statement read.
