MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Yemeni parliament’s session failed because of the absence of quorum, according to media reports.
Only 120 lawmakers of 301 attended the session in the country’s capital of Sanaa initiated by the Shia Houthi rebels, Sky news Arabia TV-channel reported.
Six parties loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi earlier said that they were not going to participate in the session.
Since 2014, Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government headed by President Hadi and the Ansar Allah movement, also known as the Houthis, which is the country’s main opposition force. The Houthis are backed by army units loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Since March 2015, the Saudi-led coalition of mostly Persian Gulf countries have been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis at Hadi's request.
