Former US State Secretary Hillary Clinton’s email server was never hacked but the same cannot be said for the State Department or other government email systems, the Democratic presidential candidate’s campaign office said in a press release on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, FBI Director James Comey told a congressional oversight committee that the private email server and email account used by Clinton when she served as secretary of state were less secure than the email service Gmail.

“Contrary to the baseless speculation and conspiracy theories, there has never been any evidence found to support the allegation that Hillary Clinton’s server was hacked,” the release noted. “However, the same cannot be said for the State Department and other government email systems.”

Entire Probe Into Hillary Clinton's Emails 'Was Tainted'
The FBI investigation found that Clinton and her staff were careless in the handling of classified information, which has prompted Republican lawmakers to call for the suspension of her security clearance.

On Thursday, US Republican senators, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, called on the State Department to suspend Clinton’s security clearance in light of the findings of an FBI probe into her private server usage.

On Tuesday, Comey announced that the FBI would not recommend charges against Clinton based on the criminal probe into her use of a private email server. US Attorney General Loretta Lynch said on Wednesday that the US Justice Department would follow Comey’s recommendations and decline to pursue charges against Clinton.
