On Saturday, the US State Department issued a statement that at least one US citizen has been identified among the 20 victims killed in the terror attack at a Bangladesh restaurant.
"We can confirm that a US citizen was also among those senselessly murdered in this attack," the department said in the statement. No other details have been provided on the US citizen or their purpose of business in the country.
The Daesh terror network claimed responsibility for the attacks as they were unfolding releasing sensitive images from of the deceased inside the restaurant. Those images have been authenticated by national press outlets.
The attack which included at least six gunmen marks a escalation in the terror network's tactics and capabilities as the group looks to pivot towards more acts of international terrorism following repeated battlefield losses in Syria, Iraq, and Libya.
