WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Senate has approved an amendment to provide $1.1 billion of the $1.9 billion that President Obama requested to fight the Zika virus.
The amendment needed 60 votes to pass, and the final count was 68 for and 29 against.
The amendment will be part of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2016.
On Monday, the US House of Representatives announced it would consider a funding proposal of $1.2 billion dollars to fight the Zika virus.
