MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The authors, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief, Christine Lagarde, stressed that during their terms in office, they had to endure and fight against sexism, despite being elected officials.
"We encourage all victims of sexual harassment and sexual assault to talk and complain. We call on our parties and our political groups to verify if such acts have been committed and if that is the case, to help the victims to get to the truth," the joint letter, published by the French Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper, reads.
The former ministers cited a 2011 criminal case on alleged sexual assault and attempted rape against the IMF ex-managing director and French politician, Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Prosecutors dropped criminal charges against Strauss-Kahn, who has been previously involved in several financial and sexual scandals.
