Germany is aware of reports claiming that Poland is considering reintroducing border controls with its EU neighbors in July and August, but has not received an official confirmation of this and does not intend to follow suit, a spokeswoman of the German Interior Ministry told Sputnik on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Monday, local media reported that Poland might introduce border controls with neighboring EU member states between July 4 and August 2 to improve security during international events due to be held in the Eastern European state during this period.

"Considerations of the Polish side on a possible temporary reintroduction of border control at internal borders of Poland are known to us… The formal notification of any internal border controls to the Federal Republic of Germany remains to be seen," spokeswoman Lisa Haeger said.

According to Haeger, Germany is not considering reintroducing checks on its Polish border.

Earlier in April, Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Blaszczak reported that border controls could be restored on July 2-31 to help ensure the safety of participants of the NATO summit in Warsaw and World Youth Day near Krakow. The minister pointed out that similar measures had been applied in 2012, when Poland hosted the UEFA European Football Championship together with Ukraine.
