Mogherini to Visit Iran in Spring
Seeking to renew dialogue on strengthening trade and investment relations between Iran and the European Union, the two sides agreed to exchange expert delegation visits at an appropriate level within the coming months. The EU side also pledged to assist Iran in its accession to the World Trade Organization.

In July 2015, Tehran and six international mediators, including Russia, reached a historic deal on the Iranian nuclear program to ensure its peaceful nature in exchange for the suspension of the anti-Iran sanctions, in particular on its oil sector.

In mid-January, the sanctions were removed after the International Atomic Energy Agency verified Tehran’s compliance with the nuclear agreement. The move makes it possible for Iran to develop relations in various spheres with the European Union.
