KIEV (Sputnik) – In December 2014, Ukraine canceled the country's non-aligned status, confirming its intention to join NATO. The alliance's officials have repeatedly stressed that Kiev will have to implement a wide range of reforms before joining the bloc.
"The President of Ukraine noted that he expects Polish support on the decision of the European Commission on the introduction of a visa-free regime with the European Union. Special attention was paid to ways of intensifying dialogue in the context of Ukraine's relations with NATO," the statement says.
The Ukrainian government is seeking membership of both NATO and the European Union for the country. According to Poroshenko, the country will hold a referendum on Ukraine’s bloc status, but only after NATO requirements have been met.
