Gazprom's CEO expects gas export to Europe will hit record level this year.

ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — Russian energy giant Gazprom expects that its gas exports to Europe will reach record levels in 2016, the company's CEO Alexey Miller said Friday.

"There is already a 9.9 percent increase. We expect that there will be a record volume. In any case, the dynamics on our traditional markets is positive," Miller told reporters.

He added that the company saw a growth of export to the countries, who had used to be net exporters, including the United Kingdom and Netherlands.

According to Gazprom, its export to the countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has been increased by 28 percent in the first quarter of 2016.

In January, Miller said that in 2015 Gazprom increased its European gas exports by 8 percent to reach 159.4 billion cubic meters of gas.
