MOSCOW (Sputnik) Intra-Syrian reconciliation negotiations may be held on March 7 in Geneva, a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.

“Negotiations are scheduled preliminarily for March 7 in Geneva,” the source told journalists.

On January 29, talks between the government of Syria and the representatives of the Syrian opposition began in the Swiss city. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said on February 3 that the talks had come to a temporary halt, but they were expected to resume on February 25.

A moderate Syrian opposition representative said on Thursday that the talks had again been postponed until March 1 due to the Riyadh-formed opposition bloc threatening a boycott.

This week, Russia and the United States announced an agreement on the cessation of hostilities between the Syrian government of President Bashar Assad and armed opposition factions in the country. The agreement is set to come into force on February 27.
