Iran does not have any ties with the United States, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif told Sputnik on Wednesday, commenting on the consequences of new anti-Iran sanctions imposed by Washington on Sunday.

DAVOS (Sputnik), Daria Chernyshova — Iran does not have any ties with the United States, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif told Sputnik on Wednesday, commenting on the consequences of new anti-Iran sanctions imposed by Washington on Sunday.

"We [the United States and Iran] don't have ties," Zarif said.

On Sunday, the US Treasury Department sanctioned 11 entities and individuals, including six Iranians and one Chinese citizen, over their involvement in procurement on behalf of Iran’s ballistic missile program. US President Barack Obama said that Washington intended to further sanction Tehran, if Iran continues to implement its ballistic missile program.

The United States has earlier weakened sanctions targeting Iran after global nuclear watchdog IAEA verified on Saturday Tehran’s compliance with the nuclear agreement reached last July. The European Union and the United Nations had abolished their anti-Iran sanctions regime following the IAEA conclusions.
