A number of controversial issues remain unresolved at Iran nuclear talks in Vienna, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday.

"The simple fact is that despite all of the progress that we have made, and it’s real, some of the tough issues remain unresolved. We know that difficult decisions will not become easier over time, and one way or the other, those decisions must be taken very soon," Kerry told reporters.

Iran and the P5+1 group of international negotiators will continue talks as long as there is real progress on a comprehensive nuclear deal, US Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday.

"Let me assure we would not be here continuing negotiations just for the sake of negotiating. We are here because we believe we are making real progress toward a comprehensive deal," Kerry told reporters in Vienna.

"We also recognize that we shouldn’t get up and leave simply because the clock strikes midnight. And I emphasize, given that the work here is incredibly technical and that the stakes are very very high, we will not rush and we will not be rushed," he added.

The P5+1 group of countries, comprising Russia, the United States, Britain, China, France and Germany has long been negotiating with Iran on its nuclear program in Vienna. The sides seek to work out a comprehensive deal which would guarantee peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear program.

In April, Iran and its six negotiators reached a preliminary political framework agreement on the issue in Switzerland. The initial June 30 deadline for reaching the full-fledged deal was repeatedly extended as the sides failed to meet it.
