ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — Moscow and Athens significantly expanded bilateral cooperation after the left-wing Syriza party came to power in Greece in January 2015.
"Greece is undoubtedly an ideal destination for investments and for Russians also… Greece offers to the Russian business community a strategic geographical position in Southeastern Europe with access to the emerging markets of the entire region, a state-of-the art infrastructure, but above all a highly skilled labor force," Christos Staikos, head of the Enterprise Greece investment promotion agency, said.
According to Staikos, who also heads the Greek business delegation at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, his country offers Russian business vast opportunities to invest in tourism, real estate, energy, food and beverage and technology.
Staikos noted that Russia is already one of the key investors in the Greek real estate market."Russians… hold the first position among non-European citizens that acquired residence permits after investing in Greek real estate assets," Staikos said.On June 18-20, a delegation of Greek officials and businessmen will attend the St. Petersburg economic forum.
