The UK Independence Party (UKIP) can contribute a lot to the campaign aimed at the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union, party’s leader Nigel Farage said Saturday.

LONDON (Sputnik) — In late May, the British government presented a bill on Britain's EU membership referendum to the parliament. The legislation would see a vote take place no later than December 31, 2017.

"I'm not saying UKIP on their own could win the referendum… but could be a very important part and component of it," Farage told the BBC.

To date, UKIP seems to be the only fully Eurosceptic organization in Britain, as many Eurosceptics from other parties "could get caught out" if the Prime Minister decides, according to Farage.

The influential Conservative and Labor veteran Eurosceptics should turn to Prime Minister David Cameron and ask to join them with UKIP "to get the campaign going," Farage said.

In the run-up to the UK May 7 general elections, the issue of Britain's membership in the EU became hotly-discussed.

After the election victory, British Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader David Cameron promised to hold a EU membership referendum by the end of 2017.

UKIP, which came third in the election race, had repeatedly pledged its commitment to the referendum on Britain's EU membership.
