NEW DELHI (Sputnik) – Pakistan is holding elections in the northern region of Gilgit-Baltistan to disguise its occupation of the region, disputed by India, an Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tuesday.
"India's position is well known. The entire State of Jammu and Kashmir which includes the regions of Gilgit and Baltistan is an integral part of India," Vikas Swarup said in a statement.
The election, scheduled for Monday, is an attempt by Pakistan to “camouflage it's forcible and illegal occupation of the regions,” he added.
Gilgit-Baltistan is a disputed territory between India and Pakistan. It borders the Jammu and Kashmir region to the southeast, itself a subject of territorial dispute between the two countries.
