US Senator Lindsey Graham will run for president in 2016, he becomes the ninth Republican candidate to join the race.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Senator Lindsey Graham has officially announced that he will run for president in 2016 at an event in Central, South Carolina, becoming the ninth Republican candidate to join the race.

“I am Lindsey Graham, and I am running for president of the United States,” the senator said.

Graham will challenge Republican candidates Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Ben Carson, Mike Huckabee, George Pataki, Carly Fiorina and Rick Santorum for the presidential nomination.

The senator has a 90 percent voting record in favor of conservative policies, according to the Politics and Elections Portal that covers announcements of 2016 Republican candidates.

In February 2015, Graham, along with Senator John McCain, urged US President Barack Obama to provide arms to the Ukrainian government.

US presidential election is scheduled for November 8, 2016.
