Four people have been found dead inside their burning home in northwest Washington D.C.; police believe they were beaten, cut or stabbed before their home was intentionally set ablaze.

The four people, who were found dead inside their home, not far from the residence of the US Vice President Joe Biden, have been identified as the house owner, Savvas Savopoulos, 46, his wife, Amy, 47, the couple’s 10-year-old son, Philip, and a 57-year-old housekeeper, Veralicia Figueroa, of Silver Spring, Md.

According to D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier, three of the victims had blunt-force or sharp-object wounds and the house apparently was intentionally set on fire.

“Evidence collection will go on for several days,” Lanier said. “There’s still a lot more we don’t know.”

The couple’s car, a blue 2008 Porsche 911, was found burning in Prince George’s County on Thursday evening. Police say it was still unclear who had been driving the vehicle.

So far there is no evidence to suggest a forcible entry into the home.

Savvas Savopoulos was the president and chief executive of Hyattsville-based American Iron Works, his Facebook page says he also worked for Sigma Investment Strategies in Puerto Rico.

The couple also had two teenage daughters who were at their boarding school at the time of the tragedy.
